Ilaa Maanta/Since Today
September 13 - October 10, 2020
Soomaal House Gallery
A seismic shift is taking place with the current pandemic and the justified peaceful protests precipitated by the murder of George Floyd. This shift, or movement, is creating new languages, narratives and perceptions around strategies for artists to be the change-makers within their communities. Soomaal House of Art has been putting artists in motion, nurturing their creative energies while giving them the agency and platform to engage with their audiences.
Thus, using a series of film screenings as an opportunity to bring people together and share their stories, Soomaal presents the Ilaa Maanta/Since Today Project. The exhibit and its subsequent programs engages and works with ten local artists to share new works of art that highlight new possibilities.
